Althought the colours are a bit more subdued, it’s exciting to see macramé making a comeback in the crafting landscape of 2022.
You know macramé is popular when Kmart sells cotton cord and kits for making simple macramé projects.
I first learnt to make macramé hanging baskets with my mum back in the seventies. One of my favourite memories was browsing the beads and jute at a local shop that seemed to magical and mystical to me.
It was called Recherché and we would often drop in after mum picked me up from horse riding or basketball. It was a magical place; full of beads, cotton cords, pottery, incense… a full complement of groovy, seventies, hippie accoutrements.
Anyway, enough of my reminiscing. I recently looked online and was unable to find many macramé patterns so I have scanned one of my vintage books to make this free macramé hanging basket pattern available to anyone else looking for such a thing.
